Credit meter tariffs

Understanding your meter charges

Electricity

Standard rate Electricity

The majority of customers who use most of their electricity during the day, and who do not in the main use electricity to heat their house and/or to produce hot water are likely to benefit from this tariff.

Economy 7 Electricity

Customers with a two rate meter who use at least 20% of their electricity at night are likely to benefit from this tariff. Economy 7 tariffs have a higher unit rate for electricity used during the day, but a much cheaper rate for units of electricity used during a 7-hour off-peak period at night.

You can find out more about Economy 7 here.

Tariff Structure

Electricity

Standard rate electricity, and the electricity that Economy 7 customers use in the daytime, is generally charged on a two-tier tariff. This consists of a:

  • Primary unit rate - charged on consumption up to and including 728 kWh per annum
  • Secondary or ‘follow-on’ unit rate - charged on consumption above 728 kWh per annum

Gas

Gas is generally charged on a two-tier tariff, consisting of:

  • Primary unit rate - charged on consumption up to and including 4572 units of gas per annum
  • Secondary unit rate - charged on consumption above 4572 units of gas per annum

Note our SOL 14 and Web 14 tariffs are not charged in this way. They are based on a standing charge and single unit rate.
